We are delighted to introduce our new book in fiction category: THE HEALER by Susanna Cooke.
Beth’s relationship with her family appears to be just like anyone else’s. A week never goes by without a call to her father living alone in the small seaside town where Beth grew up, a place that holds fond memories of her happy childhood and of her late mother. Her Aunt Meg, however, has always been an enigma, never mentioned by her relatives and seemingly isolated in her remote house in the Peak District. The two met just once when Beth decided to call at the house on the offchance. But it was a strange and very brief encounter that left her feeling distinctly unwelcome.
Consequently, the news of Meg’s death has little effect on the widowed Beth who, three years after her husband Daniel’s passing, is still struggling to cope with her grief. The surprise is Meg’s strict instructions to her solicitor that her niece should be present to hear the contents of the will. In the small Derbyshire town of Holmsworth where Meg’s funeral takes place, Beth meets her aunt’s only friend Cassie and Mark Williams, the popular local doctor, one of the few people to command the irrascible woman’s respect.
But all is not what it seems. An unexpected find in Meg’s house sets off a series of discoveries that will sweep the ground from under Beth’s feet and challenge everything she thought she knew. Soon she finds herself caught up in a web of lies and deception. As suspicion grows about Meg’s death, Beth begins a quest for truth that will sorely test her courage and even threaten her own life.
With secrets about to be revealed, old crimes dug up and justice within reach, in unearthing the sins of the past, can Beth finally find the healing, peace and new beginning she deserves? Someone is waiting to find out…
